Thank you for digging up the old translation; that was my own but there is one from Thomas Caldwell that is very similar. Quite honestly I'm having a hard time digging up notes from that time, and unfortunately that was one of the translations I thought I'd lost. Codex Fuldensis is a 6th century copy (546), and it presupposes the existence of the verse in Greek copies before that time. The virgin to which the work is dedicated is not Mary (contra Mr. McClare), but to a Christian virgin named Eustochium. It's not really a prologue, but more of an introductory letter to her for the Epistles.
