WACO Remembered:
The ATF and FBI could have arrested David Koresh any of the many times he left his compound in Waco. Instead, to look tough, they did a gung-ho armed raid that resulted in the death of five agents. They used a dozen armored combat vehicles to besiege the compound for for a month and a half.
Then, 30 years ago today, even though Koresh had agreed to peacefully surrender after completing his religious manifesto, they gassed the building before storming it like it was a Nazi bunker on D-Day. Thanks to their recklessness, 82 were killed for no reason, including 28 children.
Today we remember the dead and remind ourselves of the tragedies that occur when government agencies feel empowered to do whatever they want.
