FROM OUTER DARKNESS TO EXTREME LIGHT The Three-Hour Darkness of the Crucifixion: A Physical Model and Its Implications for the Authenticity of the Shroud of Turin (2026)

The three-hour darkness reported during the Crucifixion of Jesus (14 Nisan, 33 AD, 12:00-15:00 Jerusalem local time) is examined as a physical phenomenon using magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) plasma channel theory. We propose a high-energy neutron-driven ionisation front as the mechanism responsible for total light blockade over the Eastern Mediterranean, consistent with the eyewitness accounts of Thallus, Phlegon of Tralles, and Dionysius of Heliopolis. Geodetic measurements (Google Earth) constrain a 14,449 km channel vector extending from the Levant origin (Sakhra, Jerusalem) to a terminal formation in the Scotia Arc region. A rotational braking index of 0.533 ± 0.01, derived from a measured 21° deflection versus the expected 45° Earth rotation over 3 hours, quantifies the mechanical coupling of the plasma channel to the crust. In Part II we apply the derived neutron flux (1.43 × 10¹³ n/cm²) to the radiocarbon dating controversy of the Shroud of Turin. Archaeomagnetic data from GEOMAGIA50 (Shaar 2024, archeo013) establish that the geomagnetic field over the Levant at 33 AD was near its modern value (VADM ≈ 7.25 × 10²² A•m²), ruling out any global field anomaly as the source of the observed radiocarbon anomaly (+12.7 pMC). We demonstrate that the 1988 Oxford/Tucson/Zürich ¹⁴C dating result (689 ± 16 BP → 1260-1390 AD) is physically consistent with a local neutron injection event, and that the mainstream analysis failed to account for this variable. A falsifiable prediction is made: the Shroud should contain Cl-36 at a concentration of approximately 1.2 × 10⁹ atoms/cm³, detectable by accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS), which has not yet been measured.
