Homestead Ministries is burning $$$ on an absurd, frivolous defamation lawsuit filed in West Texas against The Independent, filed about 6 months ago.
By going to court they avoid ethical responsibility - “it’s in litigation”.
The case is moving quickly, (for such cases) the filings are on Pacer, The Independent lawyers are superb, obviously not their first rodeo. Good job, legal beagles! (A clinic in first amendment, freedom of speech, law in the USA.)
They have a motion in for a summary dismissal, in the style of Anti-SLAPP, awaiting the judges ruling.
We give more of the legal details on a public Facebook group, Homestead Heritage Contacts (no need to join to read.)
Whatever you feel about the Homestead group in general, and this article, the lawsuits (they have another similar one moving slowly in Alabama) are legal abominations.
I have long advised Homestead to pull out of these suits as gracefully as possible.
When they try to raise money for “ministries”, they allude to special expenses, but do not mention the $1 million or so (estimate) they are burning on these suits.
