Jean Morin (Latin: Joannes Morinus) (1591 – 28 February 1659) was a French theologian and biblical scholar.

The truth that yahweh=jupiter does not depend on ancient transmission of the points. (A worthy discussion.)
Hebrew sound transmission was continuous. The Masoretes confirmed their accuracy by the Tiberias and Galilee verbal usages, and the ‘rabbis’ knew all about the proper points and sounds. That is why over 15 confirm Jehovah, and 0 are for the dark-side sound.

... when Joannes Morinus, a Father of the Oratoire, had publicly espoused the same sentiments and defended them, though with less moderation and judgment, in his Exercitationes Biblicae,—the whole body of the continental Protestants, with a few exceptions, rose up in arms to defend an opinion, which they doubtless believed to be of the utmost importance*. Arnold Bootius, the two Buxtorfs, (father and son,) Glassius, Wasmuth, Loescher, and a number of other writers, entered the field of controversy ; and the Reformed churches of Switzerland, led on by tho theologians of Geneva, who were accounted the most learned in their community, enacted a law in 1678, that no person should be licensed to preach the Gospel in their churches, unless he made a public profession of his belief that the Hebrew text as it then stood, including both vowel-points and accents, was authentic and divine.

Whitby goes on to lament that Roman Catholic scholars – whom he calls “the Papists” – would be all too happy to be able to show, on the basis of the insecure foundations of the Greek text of the New Testament, that Scripture was not a sufficient authority for the faith, that is, that the authority of the church instead is paramount. As he states: “Morinus (a Catholic scholar) argued for a depravation of the Greek Text which would render its authority insecure from the variety of readings which he found in the Greek Testament of R. Stephens (= Stephanus); what triumphs then will the Papists have over the same text when they see the variations quadrupled by Mill after sweating for thirty years at the work?” Whitby proceeds to argue that, in fact, the text of the New Testament actually is secure, since scarcely any variant cited by Mill involves an article of faith or question of conduct, and the vast majority of Mill’s variants have no claim to authenticity.
