First as a student.
Then with the manuscript movement around 1843.
He also was involved around 1851, which led to a falling out.
Then in 1862 or 63 he later gave Anthimos as a reference.

As was to be expected, the ecumenical patriarch refused the arbitrarily proclaimed autocephaly of the alleged “Greek Church”, which he had never recognized. The schism was only ended 17 years later. With the Synodal Decree (Tomos) of June 29, 1850, the Patriarch Anthimos IV granted autocephaly to the Church of Greece and it attained for the first time true judicial independence'9 a hard blow to the conservatives who opposed the intrusion of the Western powers feared towards a synod controlled by the Bavarian monarchy.

This can use more context

Since even the supposedly "real" character Simonides - rightly - had doubts about his accurate biographical information early on, he adds three official credentials towards the end of the introduction and in the footnotes to counteract the already widespread distrust of his person , appealing to the authority of the issuing officials: a) Anthimos, Archbishop of Constantinople, b) the Greek Consul General of Southern Russia in Odessa Xenophon Pappadatos, c) Colonel Tzami Karatassos and other Macedonian officers. Of course, the enclosed letters contribute nothing to the proof of the originality of the manuscript; they are only intended to prove the credibility of the publisher. Whether the letters are genuine or fake is unimportant here; they are nevertheless probable - and that is exactly what is important here, to convince the reader of the authenticity of the subsequent presentation of the High School on Symi.10

10 Whether these letters actually existed was not researched as part of this study; however, they are similar to official letters of credence. In any case, the persons mentioned and their offices are not invented.

Of course, von Maurer and his government could never have carried out such a policy with only the paternal blessing of the enlightened intellectuals a la Korais. The spiritual and practical support of at least part of the Greek Church was needed. It would, of course, be a simplification to describe this current as "modernist": it is true, however, that this part of the church supported all governmental decisions oriented towards a more pro-Western view of theology and ecclesiology. In this respect one must at least mention the names of two Archimandrites: Misail Apostolidis and Theoklitos Pharmakidis. The first was the central figure of the Church's loyalty to the king, rector of the theological faculty and official interlocutor of the patriarch Anthimos IV in the difficult negotiations of the synodal decree. The second had studied in Göttingen (where there is one of the most important Lutheran theological faculties), then spent several years in Vienna (where he founded the well-known newspaper "Epprji; 6 Aoyioi;40) and was in contact with all Greek intellectuals of the Diaspora41. As Professor at the university, secretary of the synod and a bright mind with very good contacts in the field of Reformed theology, Pharmakidis was in constant conflict with the conservative scholar Konstantin Oikonomos, who acted as an agent of the pro-Russian party and representative of monastic theology42.
