"the imagined pagan Yahweh of the destructive critics"
Amen. Clear as a bell. Sometimes a single well-written phrase can capture the full essence of an issue. This was written in 1917 by the Baptist Henry Clay Mabie (1847-1918).

The men with insight knew even then, they were not buffeted by the pseudo-scholars.

Note .. not just wrong .. "imagined, pagan".

====================

The article that includes the unfolding name concepts, in their proper usage with Jehovah.

In the Old Testament there are seven compound names of Jehovah that cover the whole life of the redeemed people. These are Jehovah-jireh (Genesis 23 :14), meaning redemption and providence, Jehovah-rapha, the Lord that healeth (Exodus 15:26), Jehovah-nissi, the Lord our banner (Exodus 17:8-15), Jehovah-shalom, the Lord our peace (Judges 6 : 24), Jehovah-raah, the Lord my shepherd (Psalm 23:1), Jehovah-tsidkenu, the Lord our righteousness (Jeremiah 26:6), and Jehovah-shammah, the Lord is present (Ezekiel 48:35); the last referring to the final city of God, the New Jerusalem, when the great work of redemption will be complete and God's abiding presence shall be our light forever. p. 36

"a kind of flat or heathenish quality. .. the word Yahweh"

"We confess that we personally do not like the sound of any of these proffered substitutes. They strike our mental ear as having a kind of flat or heathenish quality. .. the word Yahweh. The word must be, for one thing, formed in the front of the mount. It has no depth, no roundness. We are personally thankful, therefore, that the King James' translators were inspired to render the Hebrew word for God by the round, grand, musical word Jehovah. We are pleased also that the revisers did not try to improve on the old word. ... Jehovah. This word, we are sure, cannot be superseded. Even if we could, as we can not, think that it would have been at the first better for the King James' translators to write Yahweh, we cannot gainsay the stubborn fact that they did write Jehovah.....we have personally no wish for a substitute of any sort for the sacred name Jehovah. It has been, by classic literature and the custom of centuries, made a good English word."

I like it when a person knows the truth of a fundamental question (Jehovah over the pagan, heathenish yahweh) simply by their acceptance of the word of God, and letting the Holy Spirit speak. Even if they are wrong on dozens of other issues :) . (This was an old-time universalist publication, before universalist meant kooky new-age. And they had been duped by the revision, yet still understood the majesty and excellence of Jehovah.)
