Are Yahweh and Allah the same God?
(this is where they deleted any discussion of Yahweh==Jupiter)

The islamists say that God does not have a son, yet their quran teaches the New Testament definition of Son of God, the virgin birth, clearly shown and defined by Luke:

Luke 1:35 (AV)
And the angel answered and said unto her,
The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee,
and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee:
therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee
shall be called the Son of God.

Granted, the islamist anunciation has some differences, some say it implies a sexual component, but it is affirming that Jesus was born of the virgin.

Luke 1:35 actually defines the phrase "Son of God" and the islamist teaching actually agrees that Jesus is the Son of God, all their disclaimers notwithstanding. They have to ignore the clear New Testament definition.

"read the annunciation from the quran. That is where you see that their actual belief about Jesus is consistent with the New Testament definition of the Son of God. From the Christian side, the emphasis is simply what the New Testament says, not claimed creedal imperatives. Of course, if you have a different definition of “Son of God” than what is given by Luke, this argument from consistency will be hard to use."

======================

Surah 21:91 is the key verse, here are two translations:
And [mention] the one who guarded her chastity, so We blew into her [garment] through Our angel [Gabriel], and We made her and her son a sign for the worlds
And (remember) she who guarded her chastity [Virgin Maryam (Mary)], We breathed into (the sleeves of) her (shirt or garment) [through Our Ruh * Jibrael (Gabriel)], and We made her and her son ['Iesa (Jesus)] a sign for Al-'Alamin (the mankind and jinns).

Surah 66:12 is also very relevant:
“And Maryam (Mary) daughter of Imran, who kept safe her private parts, (i.e., safeguarded) so We breathed in it of Our Spirit, and she sincerely (believed) in the Words of her Lord, and His Books; and she was one of the devout.” - Dr.Ghali

========================

There is a debate about whether there is a sexual component in the quran account, involving the translation here [garment], but that is not particularly relevant to the point I am sharing.

For those interested in more background, there are these two articles can be a reasonable starting point.

========================

SIDENOTE: Apparently the quran also confused Mary with Miriam, the true sister of Aaron and daughter of Amram. The islamic response is that it was a wider use of the words, e.g. brother is used in a more metaphorical, historical sense. Or maybe she did have a brother name Aaron.

I know it's it's an old thread, but here's the two verses from the translation I use:

Surah 21:92
Call to mind her also who safeguarded her chastity; so We blessed her with Our revelati\
on and We made her and her son a Sign for peoples.

66:12 :
and Mary, the daughter of Imran, who guarded her chastity and We sent Our Word to her,
and she fulfilled the words of her Lord and His Books and was one of the obedient.

I don't think either of these verses are refering to Jesus' mother: both Suras are listed in

In the introduction to the Quran translation I use, Zafrulla Khan (a former foreign minister of Pakistan I think) refers to Jesus' mother Mary and cites the passages:

Mary, mother of Jesus, is referred to in the Quran with far greater
reverence than in the Gospels:

`The angels said to Mary: Allah has exalted thee and purified thee
and chosen thee from among ali the women of thy time' (3.43).

She is cited as an example for the believers in her obedience to
Allah (66.13).

Jesus was always gentle and dutiful towards her (19.33).

Your source says the mother of Jesus, and who else?

My source says:

Maryam bint Imran (Arabic: مَرْيَم بِنْت عِمْرَان, romanized: Maryam bint ʿImrān, lit. 'Mary, daughter of Imran') is revered in Islam. The Qur'an refers to her seventy times and explicitly identifies her as the greatest woman to have ever lived
...
According to the Quran, Mary's parents had been praying for a child. Their request was eventually accepted by God, and Mary's mother became pregnant.

Zafrulla Khan cites the verses refering to Mary the mother of Jesus in his, quite lengthy, Introduction to the Quran.
