Remember, too, that Tischendorf would rig the Sinaiticus facsimile he created, like at 1 Timothy 3:16. Here we go.

Kyrillos was in the process of cataloging the library when Tischendorf arrived at the monastery .... Not until 1871, three years before his untimely death, did he describe in his book The Sinai Bible – Its Discovery, Publication and Acquisition his version of having found it: ... I had studied them as well for the purpose of a new Greek paleography, and in some cases, including the Vatican Bible, had facsimiled them with my own hand.

Jurgen writes that Tischendorf was "mistaken". Conceivably he was mixing up his visits to the Vatican 20 years later with his labours on the Sinai Bible. Or, more happened in the 1840s visit than is normally explained.

We also have his unusual claim to have transcribed the whole New Testament of the Codex Vaticanus in only 14 hours in his later visit.

That was said to be only 3 hours a day. And yet that led to the 1518 page edition.

We can well believe Tischendorf's statement that of the three hours daily, for which miserable space only the Vatican Library is open, he took anxious care not to lose a moment. He had worked on for ten days, or thirty hours, when on the 12th of March, before he had quite finished the three earlier Gospels— how he could have made so much progress is a mystery to us— p. 409

... yet the fact remains the same. He has enjoyed the full use of the manuscript he professes to edit for only thirty hours ; for about the same time he has had hurried access to it, with his attention distracted by the presence of another person. Since he cannot be expected to have done anything like justice to the most difficult and one of the most important documents preserved to us from remote antiquity, we cannot but regret that his book has been ushered into the world with so loud a nourish of trumpets; that he has spread over an expensive quarto materials that might have been compressed into a full-sized pamphlet; and above all, that he should have paid the University of Oxford the poor compliment of dedicating to her a work whose provisional and imperfect character he does not attempt to conceal. p. 410-411

Gottschlich is neither a scholar nor knows he, about what he is speaking. He is quoting from the book "Die Sinaibibel – Ihre Entdeckung, Herausgabe und Erwerbung« Tischendof:

"Die ältesten griechischen Handschriften, welche die europäischen Bibliotheken besaßen, hatte ich nicht nur gesehen, sondern auch zum Behuf einer neuen griechischen Paläographie studiert, zum Theil, darunter die Vatikanische Bibel, mit eigener Hand facsimiliert."

In English: "I had not only seen the oldest Greek manuscripts that the European libraries had, but also studied them for the purpose of a new Greek palaeography, some of them, including the Vatican Bible, facsimiled with my own hand"

- Facsimiled means: he has checked several Verses, which are disputed or of great interest. And the Verses he copied in the Majauskel Letters - this is the meaning of "facsimiliert"-- this does not mean, he has copied the whole Vaticanus for a reprint / Facsimile. So not Tischendorf is wrong or making an error - it si Gottschlich. So forget his book (I did a part of the illustrations in the original german version of his book and I told the publisher about the problems - but they have not been interested!). Not worth the paper printed on, if you want to work scholary. Its just a popular and wrong book like so many others.
