Charlesworth in Bentley

Indeed, the 43 parchment leaves were in suspiciously good condition for something consigned to the trash. -- James H. Charlesworth, foreword, Secrets of Mount Sinai: the Story of the World's Oldest Bible - Codex Sinaiticus, by James Bentley (Garden City, New York: Doubleday, 1986),pp. 87-88.

The carving of the stele, however, was very stiff, not convincing for the Tang dynasty, and the figures were all in suspiciously good condition. The work was likely created in the nineteenth century for the antiquities market and embellished with the Tang and Qing dynasty inscriptions.
