Here are publications on two studies done in 1919 trying to transmit influenza from sick to healthy people (ages seem to be about 18-35, military people), one done on the west coast and the other on the east coast.
They could not and did not transmit the flu to any healthy volunteers. Huge evidence that flu is not contagious. I've heard several doctors talk about many more similar experiments, however I can not find them.
