These Decretals are admittedly spurious, compiled probably in the 8th century. Still their evidence shows the common belief not only of that age, but of preceding ages, at least so far as the writer knew, who would not otherwise dare to publish a document, referring to this text, under the names of two Popes, one of the 2nd, the other of the 6th century.
