. According to Tischendorf, the codex was produced by four different writers at the same time in the 4th century, apart from which a number of correctors (up to the 12th century) can still be recognized. It is written on particularly fine parchment, without accents and spirits, without word division and without large initials. How far the very simple and rare punctuation was originally found in the Codex or comes from the correctors is doubtful; and also whether the Ammon. Chapter and Euseb. Canones belong to the correctors or, which Tischendorf now admits as a possibility, already belong to the Codex itself. With Cod. B. he has in common the lack of Euthalius' facilities. A special peculiarity of this manuscript is that with the exception of the poetic BB. of the A.T. the individual Seiton are divided into four columns. As in Cod. B., the conclusion of Ev. Marc. (IG, 9 ff.), And are the words lv 'Eyiow Eph. 1, 1 by later hand. The Codex is of particular value because of its completeness, since none of the other uncial manuscripts contains the entire N.T. without a gap.
Sinaitico .... accurate descripBit Tischendorf. Lipsiae 1863. LXXXI. u. 296 S. gr. 4., mit einer Tafel. Eine neue Handausgabe ganz in gewöhnlicher Druckweise erschien 1865 in Leipzig: N. T. Graece ex Sinaitico codice omnium antiquissimo, Vaticana itemque Elzeviriana lectione notata, ed. Tischendorf. Mit einer Tafel. (4 Thlr.) — Ueber den Werth dieser Handschrift vgl. [Muiall, Stud. u. Krit. 1860, IV;] ( Studien und Kritiken: ) K. Wieseler in den Theol. Stud. u. Krit. 1861, IV u. 1864. Gegen Hilgenfeld (Zeitschr. f. wiss. Theol. 18G4. From this manuscript, a splendid edition was first published in Petersburg in 1862 (Bibliorum codex Sinaiticus Petropolitanus .... ed. Const. Tischendorf. 4 vol. Fol.) s. w. tries to reproduce as faithfully as possible. Volume 1 contains the prolegomena and the critical commentary along with 21 photographic-lithographic plates, volume 4 contains the N.T. along with the pastor and brother of Barnabas. At the same time, the N.T. printed a manual edition with italics, but also with the individual columns, lines, the oldest punctuation and the like. s. f .: N. T. Sinaiticum sive N. T. cum epistola Barnabae et fragmentis Pastoris ex cod. Sinaitico .... accurate descripBit Tischendorf. Lipsiae 1863. LXXXI. u. 296 S. gr. 4., with a plate. A new manual edition in the usual printing style appeared in Leipzig in 1865: N. T. Graece ex Sinaitico codice omnium antiquissimo, Vaticana itemque Elzeviriana lectione notata, ed. Tischendorf. With a blackboard. (4 Thlr.) - On the value of this manuscript cf.

During Tischendorf they downright tested for the oldest and most valuable of all existing. Bultmann judges manuscripts explained and also puts them on Cod. Vat. "A very old age and great critical need will not be disputed. However, its value is reduced, first of all by the fact that it is extremely carelessly written and not sufficiently corrected by the earliest hand, and then by the fact that it bears the occidental coloring too much. This source would therefore be more of a correction than the first foundation of the new test. Against Hilgenfeld (Zeitschrift. F. Wiss. Theol. 18G4. Issue 1 and 2), who puts it into the 6th century with reference to the signature of the book Esther, see Titchendorf ibid. Issue 2 and in the edition of the Codex from 1865. p. LXII sq. B.] *)

A. mit B a bpr.

I have to limit myself to the above remarks. There are still some striking phenomena in which this Codex already confirmed existing types of reading here soon, or at least also recorded it, as it e.g. B. Mt. 27, 49 with B. C- L. has the addition: aklog de kassiov hoyyrrjv evv ^ ev amov Ttjv nXevQav xai e ^ rjX & ev vdcaQ xai aifia, and Luc. 23, 33 of Corr. A. with B a b pr. D the words: o de irjaovg eXeyev Thxtbq aq> eg avxoig ov yccg oidaaiv% i noiovaiv discarded while the first hand was writing them. The only thing that mattered to me here was to make the general character of this manuscript clear. A very old age and great critical importance will therefore not be contested. However, its value is diminished, first of all by the fact that it is written extremely carelessly and not adequately corrected by the earliest hand, and then by the fact that it bears the occidental coloring too much. This source would therefore be used more for correction than for the first foundation of the NT text.
